Welcome to JimCallahanSongs.com. We are well into 2011 as I write today and I am currently 18 months cancer free. At the beginning of 2011 I found my way back into performing and have returned to a more concentrated writing effort as well. I met Terry & Wanda Seay, a great couple who have opened their home in Franklin Tennessee to host frequent "House Concerts" that feature some of the best, the brightest, and the newest songwriters in Nashville. I have been fortunate to be included in their circle as I rediscover my passion. Along the way I have made lots of new friends and have had the opportunity to do some co-writing with a few. As 2010 was beginning, I began a personal battle with cancer which set me back a few months on other projects. It appears at the moment that I am winning that battle, but we all know cancer can be more than one battle. It can be a war! I am so proud that my fans and friends have continued to support my music. We have remained one of the top 25 Alternative Artist in Nashville. (out of more that 550) We remain ranked, more that three years now, in the Top 25 on Reverbnation.com for Nashville based alternative artist. I am proud of and thankful for all Fans, Friends and Family who have continued their support. My newest album became available in March of 2010, a 13 song complilation titled "On Second Avenue" click the link above to order the CD or contact me to order direct. We are expecting to have a new album released before Christmas of 2011. If you are new to my circle of family and friends you may want to know a bit about my music. I've been writing songs since I was a young boy and have been influenced by an array of genres. Rockabilly, Country, Folk, Classical, Broadway, Rhythm and Blues, Bluegrass and of course straight up Rock'n Roll have all played a part. Individual artist that have inspired me include a wide range from Hank Willliams to Bob Dylan, from Paul Simon to Otis Blackwell. Early music from the Ink Spots, Charrioteers, Mills Brothers, Theresa Brewer, Doris Day, Arthur Godfrey, The Downhomers, Early transition music from The Four Lads, Crew Cuts, Four Freshman, Tony Bennett, Patti Page, Something Smith & The Redheads, Jimmy Rogers, The Fifties Music including Elvis, Roy Orbison, Danny And The Juniors, Fats Domino, Jack Scott, Ray Smith, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Duane Eddy, The Fendermen, Johnny and The Hurricanes, Wanda Jackson, Brenda Lee, Connie Francis, Freddie Cannon, Fabian, Ricky Nelson, Paul Anka, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydel, Ray Charles, Peter Paul and Mary, The Del Vikings, More Recent Country Acts like Oak Ridge Boys, Conway Twitty, The Mandrel Sisters, Ferlin Huskey, John Prine, David Allen Coe, Randy Travis, Garth, and of course throughout it all, Johnny Cash. I was also facinated by some great song writers like Gershwin, Rogers and Hart, Hoagy Charmichael, Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, Neil Sedaka, Jim Steinman, Pete Seager, Otis Blackwell, Dave Bartholomew, Paul Simon, John D. Loudermilk, Carole King, Mike Stoller and Jerry Leiber, and Neil Diamond, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Willie Nelson, Johnny Burnette. A few folks have attempted to label my music. It's been called "Neo-Traditionalist Country," It's been called "Americana," and then individual songs have been identified as this or that style of music ... loosely translated it is just a blend of everything available musicaly from the 50's through the current times. It's my life in music.
